Course Description:
This three day course reviews the right parasternal 2D echocardiographic imaging planes as well as important left cranial 2D imaging planes. M-mode imaging is introduced. Common 2D and M-mode measurements and their applications are discussed. Equipment controls common to all machines are covered as they pertain to image optimization. This course also serves as an overview of clinical cardiology with emphasis on indications and interpretation of the physical examination, ECGs and thoracic radiographs and the diagnosis that corresponds to echocardiographic findings. There is emphasis on the staging and treatment of common acquired heart disease in the dog and the cat.
Objectives:
Attendees will leave with the knowledge to:
- Be able to recognize, subjectively evaluate and obtain all right parasternal 2D echocardiographic imaging planes.
- Be able to recognize and obtain important left sided cranial imaging planes.
Understand and correctly obtain M-mode images. - Learn the common 2D and M-mode measurements.
- Learn to optimize the echocardiographic image (equipment controls).
Recognize two dimensional and M-mode echocardiographic features of common acquired cardiac diseases in the dog and cat. - Participate in a review of clinical cardiology with emphasis on; the indications and interpretation of the physical examination, ECGs and thoracic radiographs and the diagnosis, staging and treatment of common acquired heart disease in the dog and cat.
Who Should Attend:
Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians who have attended the Introductory Echocardiography course or have had equivalent clinical experience.
