Course Description
This three day course serves as an introduction to Doppler: color flow, pulsed wave (PW), and continuous wave (CW) Doppler. The course will expound on the clinical strengths, limitations, applications and clinical utility of color, PW and CW Doppler in common canine and feline acquired heart disease. Scanning sessions will emphasize correct techniques for obtaining accurate Doppler information.
Objectives
Attendees will leave with the knowledge to:
- Understand the basic principles of Doppler echocardiography as it applies to color, pulsed wave (PW), and continuous wave (CW) Doppler.
- Become familiar with the clinical strengths and limitations of color, PW and CW Doppler.
- Learn which 2D images are most useful for color, PW Doppler, and CW Doppler integration.
- Understand the role of color Doppler as it relates to spectral Doppler (PW and CW) integration.
- Recognize normal and abnormal color, PW and CW signals.
- Understand spectral Doppler (PW and CW) estimation of pressure gradients and their clinical utility in common acquired heart disease in the dog and cat.
- Hands-on cardiac scanning instruction:
- Optimization of the right and left side imaging planes to facilitate color, PW and CW Doppler interrogation.
- Learn color, PW, and CW Doppler associated knobology i.e. optimization of these images.
Who Should Attend
This course is for veterinarians and veterinarian technicians who have attended the Intermediate Echocardiography course ( Echocardiography: Diagnostics and Clinical Cardiology) or have had equivalent clinical experience.
Suggested Prior Knowledge
This course assumes attendees can acquire and interpret all the standard right parasternal imaging planes and the left cranial imaging planes.
